How One Trail Led to a Whole Community

Meet the woman behind Roam Freely Outdoors — and the sunset that started it all.

About Michele

I don't know about you, but there's something inside me that keeps wanting to see more, explore more, feel more, and do more! This amazing planet we're on is full of so many adventures just waiting to be had.

Finding My Way Back

After years of raising my two amazing sons, I found my way back to the trail — the place that used to be my happy place. A place I hadn't forgotten about, but hadn't visited nearly as much as I would have liked. I started going for hikes again, and it reopened my love of exploring.

How Roam Freely Started

One evening I sat watching the sunset from one of my favorite summits near home and wondered if there were other women out there who might be feeling the same way I was. So I put some feelers out — and next thing you know, I had a local hiking group!

We started hiking together, which led to taking trips together, dinner parties, afternoon winery visits, and ultimately some really good friendships. That group became my passion. I'd spend my whole week planning where we'd hike next, and I couldn't wait to take them up a new trail. I especially loved showing the women heading out on their very first hike just how amazing this weekend hobby truly is.

The Turning Point

The outdoors is where I feel most at home, most like myself — and returning to it opened the door to bigger adventures than I ever expected. My bucket-list hike ever since I was eight years old: I summited Mount Kilimanjaro. After that trip, I knew in my heart that I wanted to do this full time. I didn't just want to show other women what they're capable of on the weekends — I wanted to go all in and make it my life's journey.

And so Roam Freely Outdoors was born.

Why Roam Freely

Here’s what I learned planning all those trips: the thing standing between most women and the mountains isn’t ability. It’s the logistics, the not-knowing-where-to-start, and sometimes just not wanting to go alone. So with Roam Freely, I take all of that off your plate. You bring yourself — I’ll handle the rest.

I plan every detail. Every route, every campsite, every drive, right down to the timing of each day, so you can simply show up, breathe, and be present. No spreadsheets, no guesswork, no figuring it out at the trailhead.

You’ll be challenged and cared for. I’ll never throw you in over your head or rush you through a place that deserves your time. And I’ll always tell you the truth about what a day will ask of you — because I’d rather you trust me than be surprised out there.

You’ll find your people. Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or lacing up for your very first trail, you’ll be welcomed exactly as you are. The women who roam with us come for the mountains and leave with friendships — the dinner-party, keep-in-touch, plan-the-next-trip kind.

We go to genuinely beautiful places. Western national parks, Acadia, and the kind of scenery that resets you — planned so you actually experience it instead of racing through a checklist.

This is the trip I always wished someone would plan for me. Now I get to plan it for you.

Come roam with us.
